Sue was born in Lancaster, California, on the Rancho La Liebre Ranch where her working cowboy parents Frank and Georgie Sicking were both employed. About the time Sue turned five, Frank and Georgie purchased their place south of Fallon, Nevada, where they raised hay and cattle. Frank landed a job as the Churchill County Brand Inspector and Georgie did the ranching. At a very young age, Sue started acquiring bum calves raising them and any other bum animals that came along. In her early teens, Sue started breaking colts for selling them. Sue put herself through college riding colts and raising calves. After graduation, Sue returned to Fallon, where she worked at the sale yards. She oversaw the back pens and met Sonny Jarrard, whom she married January 12, 1976, in Carson City, Nevada. While in the Fallon area, they operated a large horse business breaking and training rope and ranch horses. In the early 1980s, the Jarrards moved to Wyoming, Sonny’s home, where they began ranching near Alcova. In 1989, they purchased their place in Kaycee, where they live today.
