Chancy Wheeldon

Chancy R. Wheeldon was raised on the family ranch in Horse Creek in Jackson Hole, and is the fourth generation to run the ranch. His family raised 140 head of draft and half draft horses, that were used for the hunting operation. Everyday when not in school he was helping his father Clark riding horses in the mountains. Chancy started riding in the High School Rodeo Association in the eighth grade, rode bareback, saddle bronc and bulls, and calf roped. Chancy guided hunting trips and pack trips and day rides from 14 years old on by himself. He spent some time competing in pro rodeo, but returned to Jackson Hole and the ranch where he and his family started taking whitewater fishing trips; they called themselves the “Whitewater Cowboys.” This was combined with pack trips and day trips. Chancy continued to run about 120 head of horses, all of which are bred, raised, and trained right on the ranch, with studs that were raised on the ranch. Chancy did all the doctoring, shoeing, and training of all the horses. In 1999, Chancy built a lodge on the Mill Iron Ranch so he could run tourism on the ranch year-around. Chancy developed his own steak seasoning and he is an amazing grill master.
