Life time Carbon County Rancher Bert Johnson was born in 1936 in Laramie, Wyoming. The same year his dad Robert Johnson purchased and moved onto the A Bar One Ranch. Bert is the 2nd of 5 generations to enjoy and work on the family ranch.
Bert went to grade school on the family ranch, High school in Saratoga, and attended the University of Wyoming. While at the University the family ranch and surrounding area suffered a severe drought, so Bert quit college and moved to Montana for 2 years to take care of the family cattle. Upon his return from Montana in 1958, Bert married Dixie McKee, whose family ranched in Elk Mountain.
Bert has spent most of his life on the family ranch and managed the TA Ranch for 20 years. He served on the local school board, the Carbon County Fair Board, Carbon County Grazing Board and was also an area brand inspector for many years. Bert is a member of Carbon County Stock Growers, Wyoming Stock Growers and the First Presbyterian Church in Saratoga where he served as an elder.
While in high school in Saratoga, Bert helped organize, produce and participate in the first High School Rodeo in Saratoga where he won the calf roping and the team roping with Tom Fitzgerald, and was second in the cow riding and just missed winning the All Around. He was a master teamster and broke many teams for the ranch as well as for neighboring ranches.
